The Mercedes Benz company finds its roots reaching back to Karl Benz’s creation of the first internal combustion engine car, the Benz Patent Motorwagen in 1886. Seeing continued success with this concept, Benz and other engineers continued to work on automobiles in earnest. After a merger combined Karl Benz’s company with that of the Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft (DMG) company, Daimler-Benz was born in 1926. Mercedes-Benz then became the brand name for the Daimler-Benz company.

While Daimler-Benz continued to profit through the 30’s, World War II saw the Nazi regime take advantage of their vehicle factories, forcing 46,000 laborers to bolster the Nazi war efforts. Mercedes-Benz eventually paid reparations for their part in profiting off genocide and destruction during the war. Since then, the company has continued to lead the way at the forefront of automotive technology innovation and creation. Technological and safety innovations from the Mercedes-Benz company are now ingrained within many other automobile brands, and the company has continued to flourish. Most recently, in 2019, Daimler AG announced that Mercedes-Benz would be spun off into a separate subsidiary of itself, called Mercedes-Benz AG, to manage the car and van side of the business.

In recent years, Mercedes-Benz has become synonymous with the luxury driving experience. For Mercedes-Benz, overall top performance means more than just horsepower, torque, and top speed. With on-demand power at their fingertips, Mercedes-Benz owners can expect their vehicle to provide them with superior handling, comfort, fuel economy, safety, and even entertainment. Not to mention, Mercedes-Benz’s engineers have remained leaders in the automotive safety industry from its inception. Introducing the crumple zone in 1951, the Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) in 1978, and now a veritable armada of safety features in all of today’s models, Mercedes-Benz vehicles are highly rated for their world-class automotive safety.
